Out for a hike and a splash

The beauty of being 5, almost 6, is that you are impervious: to advice, common sense, and almost everything else except the realities of what you end up getting into. We went for a long (not far, just long) hike in the woods today and amidst the picking up of sticks, peeling of bark, slipping and sliding on ice, and crawling on rocks he faced a couple of realities. Falling on his butt while trying to walk down a steep rock, stumbling over rocks in the path, and ultimately falling into a stream shortly after chiding his dad that “I won’t fall in the water”. Not that dad’s like to bring up such things and rub your face in them or anything, we’re just documenting things for posterity. “:^)
