Yesterday Zane turned 14 months. On vacation people would ask his age and our answer usually came out like, “He’s a year old. Well, actually, he’s thirteen months old … wait, I guess he’ll be fourteen months in a few more days.” We’d smile nervously, figuring they thought we’d also engage in extended discussions on whether it was twelve o’clock or noon.
Faith finally saw Zane take a half dozen steps. We’ve been practicing this for over a week now and yet somehow she’d be looking away each time he did some serious walking. Last night I stood him up on the kitchen floor and while we babbled back and forth to each other he took a handful of careful and deliberate steps. Walking is pretty cool but I’m completely amazed at seeing him stand. There are so many things that have to go right with brains, muscles, and perception to pull this off and yet he stands there smiling, unwavering, not seeming to expend any effort in his great accomplishment.
