Chilly Hike

I went for a mountain bike ride early Sunday morning and encountered the first, fleeting snowflakes of the year. Later in the afternoon Zane and I went for a two mile hike and it wasn’t much warmer. We explored some of the biking trails that had “spines”, long sections of exposed rock ridge as if the spine of some great beast emerging from the surrounding trees and loam.

It’s also an area I had biked through earlier in the day, although I went around the steeper drops and rollers. Zane likes to imagine how things might have been done or what would happen if you took the wrong turn on the spine and fell off the cliff. So when we found tire prints at the base of this steep “roller” he had an long, extended theory on how it happened and that maybe the guy was also climbing nearby trees with his bike, “wouldn’t that be cool??”.
